Why the public purchase Private Health Insurance

There are many differing reasons why the public purchase private Health Insurance, however recent reports show two major trends

1) more reasons are being cited and

2) more people are sufficiently worried about the subject to explore the possibilities within the Private Medical Insurance Policy marketplace.

One of the major concerns is the way in which cancer sufferers are dealt with in the UK and the prevalence of the disease. According to a This is Money report the number of cancer cases is set to rise to 300,000 per year by 2020.

It is also an worrying fact that the UK has amongst the worst cancer survival rates in Europe, due in some part to the fact that the country spends less on treating the disease than most other European countries. It is the acknowledgment of these facts that in many cases causes the public to feel the need for comprehensive medical insurance.

Unfortunately many feel that the level of cover required is not attainable solely from the National Health Service. Specifically with regard to cancer treatment, many are seeking private health care plans as a means of accessing treatment types not always available through the NHS, some of these treatments have a higher success rate in relation to treating cancer.

Another major concern that is evident from a recent report is the fears surrounding infection within hospital facilities and especially in relation to MRSA. People are looking to negate the requirement of being placed on a large waiting list and also want to feel that the consultations are being carried out in clean, infection free surroundings.

Unfortunately this fear regarding hygiene standards may be justified as a recent report in the Telegraph cited as many as a quarter of health trusts not meeting basic hygiene standards. These are two of the many reasons for the rise in consumer interest in private medical insurance plans.
